Does anyone have experience with natural remedies for bipolar disorder?
sissa_stern asked:
I’ve been on medication for a little over a year for bipolar II (soft bipolar). I’m thinking about going off the prescribed stuff and pursuing a natural approach….. diet, exercise, Omega 3, and other supplements I’ve heard about. Has anyone tried this or have experience with this? I don’t want to go back to the way I was, of course.. but I’d like to get off pharmaceuticals.
And I will talk to my doctor first of course!

Go off very, very, very slow, and if you show any symptoms, bale on your plan quickly. I just tried lowering one single med a small amount and was hit with symptoms within three days. Stayed at that level for a week, it got worse, I went up. It’s now over two weeks later, and I’m in worse shape than before I tried this nifty little experiment. Really bad move.
Omega3s aren’t stabilizers. If they work for you, they will give a mild antidepressant effect. Recommended dose is 1-2 grams of the EPA ingredient. I take these daily. It makes a bit of a difference for me.
If there was a natural treatment, it would have been all over the news years ago and most of us would be swallowing vitamins and minerals instead of meds. Who knows, though. Maybe your BP is soft enough that you can go med free.
